Year 4  Newsletter

Year 4 newsletter – Spring Term 2019

Thank you for your support during our first term. We are looking forward to starting back to school in 2019 and starting some new and exciting topics.

Our focuses for this term will be ‘Eco Warriors’, which involves the children learning about recycling and the importance of taking care of the natural environment. In addition, this links in with learning about rainforests, where children will learn about a range of animals, where rainforests are located around the world, as well as how we can prevent deforestation.

PE will continue to take place on Tuesdays, so please ensure that PE kits are in school at the start of every week. At specific times, the timetable may change, due to activities such as Forest School, so children need to keep PE kits in school during the week.

During this term, the children will also have the opportunity to consolidate learning from their previous year, linking to the key core areas:

Guided reading We will be focusing on a range of texts to develop the children’s reading skills. Some of these texts may link to the rainforest and recycling, and will include fiction and non-fiction texts.

Literacy We will be focusing on writing a range of texts, linking to different genres, as well as consolidating knowledge of spellings and sentence structures each week. Spelling tests will be carried out once a week, in literacy groups and homework will be handed out on a Friday, including the weekly spellings to practice. Homework will then need to be handed in by Wednesday.

Numeracy Our focuses this term will be consolidating knowledge and application of the four operations, as well as starting fractions, time, money and statistics.

Music/Drama – Instrumental lessons will continue on Monday afternoons. If your child takes an instrument home to practise, can you please ensure they bring it back in for their lesson each week. Also, throughout this term, Y4 will have the chance to take part in workshops with the Birmingham Hippodrome, working on the arts and performance.

Whitemoor Lakes trip From 3rd April until 5th April, children will have the opportunity to go to the outdoor learning residential trip. Payments should be made to the office, if your child would like to attend.

We look forward to continuing this year and having the opportunity to support your child’s learning.
