It is now the summer term and we have lots of exciting things to look forward to and learning to do, in preparation for year 1!
Summer Term Themes
This term we are learning about ‘Growth and Change’ focussing on ‘Plant and Animal lifecycles’. We will be writing instructions on how to plant a sunflower seed to do practically and sending home seeds and a plant diary for your child to do as a homework project. Children will also explore these topics through art work, stories, circle times and a trip to the farm!
In literacy/ phonics we will be focussing on phase 3 and 4 letters and sounds as well as spellings of keywords. There is a big focus this term on writing sentences structured correctly with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops and writing for different purposes e.g. stories, descriptions, instructions, letters.
In Numeracy, we will be focussing on worded problems linked to addition and subtraction, using a range of different strategies and recording numbers. We will also be learning number bonds and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s ready for year 1.
Please keep up the good work with reading with your children at home, with a focus on reading simple sentences fluently and encouraging good comprehension of their reading books. Reading/Spellings of keywords is ongoing and supports your child’s progress in their reading and writing at school. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book bag every day, as this is an extremely busy term timetables might vary week by week and reading will happen as and when. Thank you for your co-operation with this.
In the second half of the summer term your child will take part in some transition sessions within their New Year 1 classes with their new teachers. We will also grow butterflies in class and release them as part of transition.
P.E. lessons will take place mainly outside using different outdoor equipment. Your child will have P.E. on the normal days and they will need their normal PE kit a green t-shirt, black shorts or trousers and black pumps which can stay at school for the term.
The Reception gates will be open at 08:45 in the morning. Registers are submitted at 08:55 and any children who arrive after this time will be marked in as late. The gates open at 3:20 in the afternoon.
Please collect your child promptly.
