Year 6 Newsletter

Dear Parents

We hope everybody had a really enjoyable break and is ready to start a new term in Year 6.

Our theme for this term is World War 2. In history, we will be learning about the causes of this war, the effect on Britain and how we celebrated the end. In geography, we will be learning about the locations of the countries involved in the war and explore how these countries changed during this period. In addition, our artist will be Joseph Turner and we will look at creating our own ‘war skies’ based on his artwork.

Our literacy will be closely linked to World War 2 and we will be reading The Silver Sword; in numeracy, we will continue to work on FDP and also begin to look at shape and statistics.

After the February half-term, our theme will change to animals including humans. We will learn all about Daniel Hale’s scientific discoveries, explore how organs in our body are vital to our survival and learn which substances can be harmful and how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

As we move into the second half-term, we will begin to do more work on preparing children for their SATs. These are on the week commencing 13th May. In preparation for their SATs, we will be having University Week from Monday 25th March to Thursday 28th March. This is an opportunity to continue working towards SATs and participate in some fun in the afternoons which build independence. All pupils are expected to attend.

Thank you for all your support.
